Care for an Antique Marble Double Washing Basin Stand

12/4/2011

Many antique marble Double Washing Basin stands weren't chemically treated to make them as durable as some of the furniture of today. However, with some basic care, the wash-basin stand will last a long time. Whether the entire stand is marble, or a combination of marble and wood, the care requirements remain the same.

1 Dust the basin stand daily using a soft cloth. A flannel cloth is ideal for the job as it won't damage the marble.

2 Clean the marble using a solution of 1 gallon of water mixed with 1/2 cup of liquid dish washing detergent. Use a clean, soft cloth to wipe the stand with the solution. Use another cloth dipped in clean water to rinse the marble. Wipe with a dry soft cloth.

3 Keep the stand away from extreme and sunlight, as these may weaken the stand or cause it to fade.

4 Wax the stand with a wax appropriate for antiques at least twice per year.

5 Contact a professional antique restorer if you notice any cracks or other defects in the stand. An antique restorer may be able to fix the problem for you.
